A.J.Way is a privately owned High Wycombe based manufacturer of specialist seating.
The company was established in 1936 by Jack Way who was left paralysed after an accident and turned his skills to manufacturing products for the elderly and less able. We cherish our reputation for quality, value and good design and work closely with occupational therapists and healthcare professionals to produce a wide range of chairs which fit user needs as closely as possible. Our aim is to fit the chair to the person rather than the person having to fit the chair.

ProBax™ promotes improved seated posture, support comfort. Clinical tests have indicated greatly improved venous blood flow for the vast majority of users thereby reducing the risk of DVT-like events.

High Seat Chairs

A.J.Way offers a wide range of attractive styles with varying degrees of lumbar head support. All chairs are available in a choice of wood finishes and fabrics including soft covers, vinyls and specialist waterproof, breathable materials. We can even use customer own cover where accompanied by a current fire certificate. Many of our high seat chairs are available in different seat height, width and depth options, full details of which are listed in our catalogue. We can even make chairs up to 34" (860 mm) wide and up to 26" (660 mm) high as well as catering for the more petite user. Our Guernsey chair has been strength and stability tested for users of up to 36 stone (229 kg) in weight.

Manual Rise Recline

The Arran
The Arran Manual Riser is one of our best selling chairs and has been in production for over 25 years. It assists rising and lowers the user gently back down. It is a safe and controlled action and may be fitted with a choice of piston strengths to suit user weight. The chair has a locking handle which secures the seat in the down position. The mechanism may also be fitted in our Falkland Chair and both Arran and Falkland Manual Risers are VAT exemptable products for qualifying purchasers.

The Falkland Chair may also be fitted with a reclining back (although not in the same chair as a riser action). A ratchet action gives a choice of four backrest positions. A matching legrest is also available.

Electric Lift Recline Chairs

A.J.Way manufactures both single and dual motor chairs. Many clients automatically believe the dual motor chair to be a better buy but some important facts should be considered: dual motor chairs have more handset buttons which may be confusing; duals often have lower seat and legrest elevation than single motor chairs and the recline action is less comfortable than on a two way single motor chair where seat and backrest move together. Single motor Blenheim Chatsworth Chairs offer a good "television watching" position where legs are elevated with the back only slightly reclined and a further reclined position perfect for a snooze!

Side Transfer Chairs

A.J.Way's Shetland Drop Arm Chair has proved a real winner. Both arms lift up, out and down in a simple but effective action to allow side transfer to a wheelchair. Dropping the arms of a chair also allows easier access for hoist slings or medical equipment. Drop arm chairs may also be helpful for nursing mothers. On the electrically operated front we offer the Multi 6 Dual Motor Riser Recliner with drop arms. Both chairs are VAT exemptable for qualifying purchasers.

Commode Chairs

We offer a range of attractive, discreet wooden Commode Chairs which double as bedroom chairs. The Chalgrove is available in an extra wide version for the larger user. All have a practical plastic toilet seat and upholstered top cover in a wide choice of fabrics or vinyls and a variety of frame finishes. Commodes are exempt from VAT for qualifying purchasers.
