S G System Products Limited offers a wide range of high quality, bespoke, hand finished, balustrade and handrail systems for staircases, balconies, atriums and ramped access (meeting the requirements of the DDA), to the U.K. construction market and the more discerning private client. These systems are available in stainless steel, aluminium, brass, toughened glass and pvc sleeved steel.

Our products are "bespoke, hand-finished systems". Designed, manufactured and hand finished in the U.K. with an absolute minimum number of visible joints to the handrail. This approach enables quality to be defined in advance, prices to be competitive, and "on site" time to be kept to a minimum. A quality product however, which is made to fit each individual location requires an order to be placed in good time. All products also have " low lifecycle costs ".

In order to keep quality standards both high and consistent, we hold the components in stock (glass brackets, baluster tops etc) yet we also fabricate the handrail to suit each individual site location. Hence the "bespoke system". This means that there will generally only be one mechanical joint in the handrail per flight of stairs. This approach combined with our experience, results shorter lead times, consistent quality and our fixer being on site for the minimum possible time to produce a final "quality installed product".

Our product range includes: Stronghold ..a stainless steel system, Strading ..oval section aluminium handrail with twin stainless steel balusters, Stargard ..galvanised steel tube sleeved with 4mm thick pvc, Glassrail ..a structural glass system using 15mm or 19mm glass panels and a choice of handrails, AL50 ..a tubular aluminium system with "thick wall" balusters for strength, and Citadel ..a tubular brass system. It is possible to "mix and match" products through the range.

e.g. Stargard handrail on Stronghold balusters.

Glassrail Steel staircase with Glassrail balustrade

Structural glass balustrade system without balusters! The handrail is connected to the stair or floor by the glass panels themselves.

          Clarity,  Elegance,  Strength.

Glassrail Applications

Glassrail structural glass balustrade is intended for "quality" building applications where a "clear view" through the balustrade is required, whether on a staircase, "viewing balcony" or an atrium.

It can be used either internally or externally.

Glassrail is ideal for commercial and domestic applications

Glassrail .... The Product

Glassrail is a structural, or cantilevered glass balustrade system which uses 15mm or 19mm thick toughened glass panels as the balustrade without the need for any vertical metal or timber balusters.

Design Options.

Handrail:  50mm or 70mm diameter, or 80mm x 40mm oval stainless steel, top fixed to the glass or, alternatively, handrail from our Stronghold, Stargard, Strading or Citadel range, side fixed to the glass.

Glass: 15mm, 19mm or 25mm thick heat soaked toughened, clear glass which can be sandblasted or acid etched with logos or features if required.

Base Fixing: mild steel clamping plates, or stainless steel profiled clamping plates give a variety of fixing options. These plates can be "clad" to hide the fixing bolts if necessary.

The fixing can be to the side, top or underneath the floor or, to the side "string" of the concrete or steel stair.

Stainless steel tubular balustrade and handrail system, with either stainless steel or brass fittings. Stronghold is very easy to maintain.

Bridges the gap between traditional and high tech design.

Stronghold Applications

Because Stronghold is a stainless steel balustrade system it is suitable for both internal and external applications, staircases and balconies.
It is particulary suited for installations which require sharp, crisp lines and low maintenance costs.
High tech buildings and re-furbish projects alike, can all benefit from Stronghold's stylish lines and robust performance.

Stronghold  ...  The Product

Stronghold is normally manufactured from 2" (50.8mm) diameter stainless steel tube, either grade 304 for internal use or grade 316 for external. If required however, the handrail can be 42 mm diameter. The tube can be polished with either a BRIGHT or SATIN finish, or given a GLASS BEAD BLASTED finish which darkens the appearance.

The fittings (glass brackets, baluster tops etc.), are grade 316 stainless steel bright polished or, alternatively brass which is bright polished.

As with all of our products, Stronghold handrail is fabricated to suit each individual site. Bends are incorporated into the handrail and all workshop welds are ground smooth, dressed and polished to blend into the design. One mechanical joint per flight of handrail is our design aim.

Various infill panel options are available, namely, toughened glass (clear, tinted or etched), perforated sheet (either stainless or powder coated), mid rails or stainless steel wire.

The product is designed to keep maintenance costs as low as possible and, "on site" time to a minimum without affecting the quality of the installation. Stronghold, once installed, is easy to maintain.

Stargard handrail with Stronghold balusters and bespoke infill panels

The original "Warm to the touch" balustrade system.

Not simply a powder coated finish...  but 4mm thick PVC sleeving, on to galvanised steel tube.

Handrail is 42 mm or 50 mm diameter, with balusters of 50 mm diameter.

Stargard requires minimal maintenance.

Stargard Applications

Stargard is suitable for internal and external locations, and in particular, offices, schools, public buildings, sheltered housing and access for the less able bodied (Stargard meets the requirements of the DDA Building Regs Part M 2004). In fact, wherever durable performance and low maintenance is required.

Stargard ... The Product

Stargard is a unique design which combines the strength of steel tube with the smooth finish and warm touch of the pvc sleeving. All fittings are stainless steel.

This concept means that, if required, the handrail can be one colour and the balusters another. The stainless steel fittings separating the two colours.e.g. blue handrail with grey balusters, white handrail with black balusters and many other combinations. Again, as with all of our products, the handrail is designed to have only one mechanical site joint per flight of stair.

The 4mm thick tubular pvc sleeving (shown at the top of this page) is factory applied after fabrication of the handrail and balusters. This pvc sleeving as well as being a smooth colourful finish, will resist knocks and bumps, will not chip, is "warm to the touch" and easy to maintain. Because the colour is consistent through the full 4mm of thickness, it will not require any further work other than regular cleaning.

There are several colours of pvc held in stock for speedy delivery (red, blue, green, grey, yellow, black and white, all shown at the top of this page) but almost any other colour is available dependant on the quantity required.
Tactile handrail ends which may also be of a contrasting colour, can easily be accomodated.

Two new colours have been added to the range.... metallic silver (a stainless steel lookalike) and bronze.

The grade 316 stainless steel fittings are bright polished.

There is a variety of infill panel options. Toughened glass, powder coated perforated sheet, (which can be a contrasting or complementary colour), mid-rails (pvc sleeved or stainless steel), stainless steel wire or solid thermosetting resin panels in a range of colours and finishes.

AL 50 dividing balustrade to a library stair

An aluminium balustrade and handrail system based on 50 mm diameter tube.

"A much lighter, more open profile "

AL 50 Applications

AL 50 has been specifically designed to enable the balusters to be placed at wider centres.

(up to 2.0 metres apart.)

This helps to reduce the "metre run" price, and therefore the total balustrade cost of the project. The "thick wall" balusters allowing greater spacing between the uprights, whilst still complying with loading requirements.

Balconies, galleries and viewing areas of many types, as well as staircases, are therefore suited for AL 50.

Both internal and external applications are acceptable, however, a powder coated finish is essential for external work.

AL 50 ....The Product

The handrail and balusters are fabricated from aluminium extrusions which have a smooth surface. This in turn gives a smooth finish to the powder coating.

The handrail and balusters are 50mm outside diameter, and have only one mechanical joint per flight of stairs.

The brackets are also connected mechanically to enable the whole product to be either polished or powder coated as individual parts. Alternatively the brackets can be polished stainless steel with either a satin or bright polished finish which adds a "sparkle" to the finished product. The resulting assembly is much cleaner as a design.

Infill panel options are; toughened glass, mid-rails, stainless steel wire, stainless steel or powder coated perforated sheet and solid thermosetting resin sheet in a range of colours.

Satin finished Strading with tinted glass panels

Oval section aluminium handrail with twin stainless steel balusters. For those who want something "a little different"

"Elegance and style allied to strength"

Strading Applications

Designed for both the "new build" and "refurbish" market, staircase balustrade and balconies, Strading is aimed at applications which require slim, elegant, graceful, yet strong balustrading.

Strading ... The Product

Oval section aluminium handrail 60mm wide x 20mm deep, twin stainless steel balusters and aluminium brackets which can be anodized or powder coated, are the basis of the design. (Tubular stainless steel handrail can also be used from our Stronghold product if required)

The oval section handrail has a continuous groove to the underside which enables the balusters to be fitted at almost any point along the length of the handrail. This gives the maximum positional flexibility to the fixer. As with all of our products the handrail is designed to have only one mechanical joint per flight of stairs. The handrail can be powder coated if required.

The twin balusters give maximum strength and allows wider centres, thus adding to the elegance of Strading and reducing the cost per metre run.
The brackets can be fitted at almost any point on the balusters through their "variable positioning".

Infill panels are: toughened glass, (clear or tinted) mid-rails, stainless steel wire or perforated sheet.

Citadel

Citadel with black Stargard balusters

Citadel with clear toughened glass infill

Citadel brass balustrade with tinted glass infill panels

A brass tubular handrail and balustrade system

"Blends the traditional richness of brass with a range of modern balustrading."

Citadel Applications

Citadel is aimed at the specifier who wants the rich appearance and feel of brass handrail. Internal building applications are more suited to the use of brass, but it can also be used externally as long as the "sparkle" is retained with weekly polishing.
Prestigious buildings of all types are the most likely home for Citadel.

Citadel ... The Product

Citadel is a brass tubular handrail of 50mm diameter, fitted to a choice of balusters in brass, stainless steel or pvc sleeved steel, (from our other products) combined with fittings in either brass or stainless steel are the basis of the design.

The brass handrail looks particularly attractive when combined with balusters in black, although wine red, white and green also have their appeal.

Infill panels are available in glass (clear or tinted), or with mid rails.
If what is required is simply brass wall handrail, then Citadel can be supplied in this form too.
