Dorgard is a device designed to safely hold open a fire door and automatically release the fire doors upon the sound of a fire alarm. It can be used to hold the fire door open in any position.

When Dorgard is holding open a fire door it listens for a continuous fire alarm sound level of over 65 decibels. After approximately 14 seconds it will release, allowing the fire door to close under the pressure of the overhead door closure.

Deafgard incorporates a wireless, battery powered, acoustically triggered bedside unit that incorporates a high intensity strobe, and a vibrating pillow pad.

Deafgard is given to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing guest upon arrival at the Reception of the Hotel. The Receptionist checks and shows the guest how to operate the Deafgard unit. The Deafgard unit accompanies the guest to his/her hotel room.

The connected vibrator pad is placed under the pillow. When the Deafgard unit hears the fire alarm, the under-pillow pad vibrates waking the sleeper, whilst the activated flashing strobe and LCD provides the complementary visual indicator. The result is an immediate and effective motion and visual trigger, which signals that the fire alarm is sounding, allowing the individual to leave the building to a place of safety.
