Long Rake Spar helps prepare for floods
Date: 04/03/2008

Responding to demand, Long Rake Spar has supplied over 1000 pre-filled sandbags to Travis Perkins in Cheltenham to help local residents protect their homes against the winter flooding.

John Mitchell, stock controller at Travis Perkins said, “This winter with the heavy rainfall and the memory of the summer floods fresh in everyone’s minds, we needed to respond to customer requests for pre-filled sand bags.  With timing being critical, and an immediate demand for large quantities, we found that Long Rake Spar were able to supply full loads, promptly delivered into our depot for distribution throughout our branches.”

Adverse weather products such as sand bags and rock salt are subject to sudden seasonal demand, requiring a speedy priority delivery in these critical situations.  Long Rake Spar carries significant stock levels at its depot in Derbyshire to meet these sudden surges in demand, and although these products are only a small fraction of its extensive decorative and commercial aggregate range, they are nevertheless an important product to many builders’ merchants.

“The two loads of sandbags were delivered exceedingly quickly into our yard in Cheltenham, and were then distributed to our branches to meet urgent customer demand, which greatly assisted in the help to prepare for the threat of floods” concluded John Mitchell.
