New Optical Current Sensor
Date: 22/02/2008

Measuring electrical current at distance, without cutting conductors, in confined and hazardous situations can be impossible. BBN International announces the Optical Current Sensor from Namiki.

The Optical Current Sensor (OCS) exploits the Faraday effect in an optical only device. Compact, light and intrinsically safe, the OCS can be deployed easily and away from the measuring instrument.

The sensor is capable of operating between -20 and +80°C. The OCS is immune to electromagnetic noise and can measure currents up to 6KA RMS over a frequency range of 10Hz to 10KHz and has a fast response time. Portability and small size make the OCS useful for underground cables, fault location and even power usage measurement.
