Date: 18/09/2007

Airport projects are something of a speciality for aluminium roof welding specialists M.R. Site Services.

Welding work has recently been completed at Birmingham and Newcastle airports as part of their forward expansion programmes.  This adds to a string of airport projects completed by M.R. Site Services including Heathrow Terminals 5 and 3, Gatwick, Stansted, Luton, Cork, Doncaster, Prestwick, Bristol and Liverpool.

At Birmingham airport, M.R. Site Services worked with roofing contractors Keyclad on the aluminium roofs of the new departures / arrivals corridor, completing 7,000 metres of aluminium welding of the Keybemo standing seam roof and 150 metres of welding around roof penetrations such as soil and vent pipes, air conditioning units and smoke detectors.

Matt Craig, managing director at Keyclad commented, “Melvyn Rowberry of M.R. Site Services was the initiator of aluminium welding systems and the high standard still attained by them is excellent.”  He continued, “Their service and attention to detail is also impressive.”

As well as the aluminium roof welding, M.R. Site Services also specially fabricated 1800mm square access hatches for the project and applied a high specification PPG Duranar paint finish.

At Newcastle airport M.R. Site Services worked with contractors Lakesmere on a new control tower for the airport.  M.R. Site Services used their aluminium welding expertise to fabricate cranked aluminium roof sheets for the aluminium and glass roof and also performed the roof welding of the Kalzip taper sheets.  Alasdair Glenn, commercial manager at Lakesmere was delighted with the work, “We use M.R. Site Services on the majority of our jobs and always find them to be very helpful and reliable.”
