Cold Control

Samson contols provide air products with the optimum control in cold conditions.

Valve specialists Samson controls are making an important contribution in helping Air Products achieve the highest levels of control when temperatures are at their lowest. Air Products, an acknowledged worldwide supplier of industrial gases and associated equipment, chose Samson Controls as a preferred supplier of control valves, specifically type 3248 control valves which are used on cryogenic process applications.

Collaboration between Samson offices in the UK with Air Products fabrication facility in Acrefair in North Wales, led to the further development and modification of ‘standard’ Samson valves which needed to operate on process lines where temperatures are typically as low as minus 198ºC. Each application is treated by Samson as a special to ensure that the optimum valve is selected for the duty.

For example, the type 3248 control valves have specially long isolating sections to distance the actuator and instrumentation from the very cold media flow and are welded into the pipework to form an integral part of the coldbox. The modified valves successfully met Air Products specific requirements and minimised both fabrication time and shipping dimensions.

The less severe applications for Air Products would still represent demanding conditions for most industries, but for these duties Samson supplied more standard type 241 and 251 series valves. To date Samson has provided well over 1000 valves to Air Products.
