One of the UK’s largest plasterboard, plaster and dry-lining systems manufacturers, British Gypsum, has turned its back on their traditional paper based recording system for specifically designed data acquisition ‘Quality Monitor’ software. The software was developed by Northwest Analytical and is supplied throughout the UK by Adept Scientific, suppliers of software for research, science and engineering.
The ‘Quality Montior’ software is able to provide manufacturers with cost effective, powerful, configurable software which allows plant-floor data collection and SPC (Statistical Process Control) charting in an off-the-shelf package. It enables manufacturers a single solution for plant-floor SPC, enhanced data acquisition, improved quality control and bettered streamlining of workflow.
Amanda Nurcombe, Company Quality Systems Manager at British Gypsum says of the acquired software;
“Even during the pilot phase, I’ve been able to analyze data at my desk, and when we complete the roll-out to all the plants, we will be able to compare performance on different products and share best practices between plants.”
British Gypsum has been making plasterboard for over a century and currently produces around 150 million square meters every year in five plants across the UK. Their decision to improve their data acquisition was prompted by the need for a standard process across all its plants in order to meet growing demands for modern building materials. Plasterboard can reduce labour input henceforth saving builders and developer’s time and money.
Michelle Boness, PR Specialist for Adept Scientific commented;
‘Our NWA software, specifically developed to address the needs of research, science and engineering outfits offers our customers time saving, cost effective solutions which can transform their companies performance.’
In the UK alone, over 3 million tonnes of plasterboard are used in construction each year. Aware of potential environmental impact, British Gypsum set up the UK's leading plasterboard recycling service (PRS) in 2001.
The service collects and recycles post consumer waste plasterboard from new build construction sites throughout the UK and reprocesses through one of their three dedicated recycling plants, prior to re-feeding the reclaimed gypsum back into the manufacturing. Last year the service recycled over 75% of all plasterboard waste recycled into new plasterboard in the UK.
